During my five years as a material major, I really took on various challenges. I also enjoyed doing research until I was completely satisfied with my extracurricular activities, and I think that I was able to gain a number of top-notch experiences. It was a very intense five years, with good lab members and people around me. After graduating from graduate school, he worked as a PI (Principal Investigator) for about 10 years at two US chemical companies, DuPont and 3M, in technology development to launch new businesses. All of them were not directly related to plasma, which was a research field in the graduate school, but what I learned and experienced in graduate school was a plus. I am living in Singapore this year with my husband's overseas transfer. I don't work, I work on my child-raising, studying, volunteering, reading, etc. that I couldn't do during my work, and I'm thinking about strategies to take on the next challenge. Even if you belong to the company, you will often encounter new issues in your private life, but in the era, how much you worked hard when you faced the issues was directly linked to your confidence later. Everyone who will be studying in the field of material science should come face-to-face with their daily challenges and build their self-confidence.
YURI NOMA(2009.3 Terashima laboratory Doctoral completion)

I was studying coating type semiconductor devices in the field of material science. At present, he is a venture company from a laboratory to which he belongs, and is involved in the development of elemental technologies for practical use of organic semiconductor materials. The Department of Materials Science has laboratories in various fields such as physics and chemistry, and people from different backgrounds are gathered, so you can learn how to understand things from various perspectives. In addition, each laboratory is equipped with substantial facilities, so you can work on cutting-edge research in each field. One of the major features of the new field is the ability to carry out research that is not restricted to existing frameworks. My laboratory was specialized in organic semiconductors, but I was involved in research not only on organic semiconductors but also on oxide semiconductors such as IGZO. The Materials Department has a great environment for conducting research. I hope that you will be able to live a fulfilling research life with a major in material science.

In the Department of Materials Science, we are studying novel electronic states that appear in superconductors. Currently, we are studying physical properties at the Graduate School of Engineering Science at Osaka University. When you start an experiment, you can learn not only specialized physics but also various knowledge and skills while constructing a measurement environment and analyzing the experimental results. The experiment is quite difficult through trial and error, but the joy of struggling and getting good results is a bit of a joy, and when I entered university, my career after graduation was not decided at all, I noticed that I started my career as a researcher. In retrospect, the Kashiwa campus, which I spent as a graduate student, reminds me of the wonderful environment where I can focus on my research. The Department of Materials Science, where experts from various fields gather in the field of material science, is a valuable exchange place where not only specialized research but also a wide range of academic fields can be experienced. I am looking forward to everyone who will be studying in this major to carry out substantial research activities and continue to be active after graduation.
SUGURU HOSOI Osaka University, Graduate School of Engineering Science (2017.3 Shibauchi laboratory Master's completion)

At present, we are conducting research to clarify the functions of macromolecules and biomolecules by observing the electronic state of water using a technique called soft X-ray emission spectroscopy at the Harima Branch of the Institute for Physical Properties. Polymer brushes, in which polymers are arranged two-dimensionally, are attracting attention as a surface modification method that imparts functions such as antifouling properties, which take in water and swell, causing oil to spontaneously emerge on the brush surface. Although the importance of water is recognized in functions such as antifouling properties, it is not fully understood how the structure of water plays a role and how it can be controlled . Therefore, the structure of water in the polymer electrolyte brush was clarified by directly observing the electronic state of oxygen related to the hydrogen bond of water using soft X-ray emission spectroscopy, and the material-side factors involved in the water structure were clarified. We are conducting research to clarify the correlation with brush surface functions. For me, my master's and doctoral studies in material sciences was a valuable time not only to study, but also to find out what I really wanted to do. I sincerely hope that your time in material science, which is no substitute for anything, will be waiting for you.
KOSUKE YAMAZOE The University of Tokyo, The Institute for Solid State Physics, Laser and Synchrotron Research Center (2017.9 Harada laboratory Doctoral completion)

Currently I am a postdoc at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University (OIST). This area is a research institution that is rich in international character (rich) that you cannot imagine as a Japanese university. I decided to come to Kashiwa because, of course, I was interested in the contents of my research, as well as the textbooks on the lab's website, such as travelogues, which were very interesting. In fact, my graduate school teacher was a humorous and free-minded researcher, and had five years of time and spirit. The main research was on crystal growth of inorganic magnetic materials and measurement of basic physical properties, but we have been actively engaged in joint research with advanced measurement laboratories (strong magnetic fields, neutrons, etc.) on the campus. I was able to spread it. In addition, thanks to being able to go to international conferences and long-term overseas experiments, I have been able to avoid the current environment. Looking back, I think that my potential has greatly expanded as a result of my major in material sciences. I hope that a new cultural leader will be born in the area between the Edogawa and Tonegawa like Mesopotamia civilization.
RYUTARO OKUMA Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology Graduate University, Quantum Materials Science Unit（2019.3 Hiroi laboratory Doctoral completion)

I graduated from the Faculty of Engineering, Osaka University, and hoped for the Yuji Sasaki Laboratory of the Multidimensional Measurement Science Laboratory of the University of Tokyo. The research at Osaka University on small molecules that react to protein molecules, I wanted to measure mysterious molecular dynamics by myself. When I told Professor Sasaki of that hope, he said, "It's wonderful to bring your own theme!" However, since Sasaki Lab was mainly engaged in research using large synchrotron radiation facilities, I had no knowledge of X-rays at all, and I was very worried. However, when I actually entered the university, many of the Sasaki lab students had never seen or visited the synchrotron radiation facility, and my teachers and seniors, as well as two representative large-scale radiation sources in Japan. The staff of the light facility (many people from Sasaki Lab and from home) were kind enough to teach me from the basics, so I was able to start the synchrotron radiation experiment very fun. After that, I went on to a Ph.D. program, taking life science one step further, proposing my own experimental system considering clinical applications, and constructing my own equipment, and managed to obtain an academic doctorate in almost three years. Was. There are certainly many laboratories in the field of material science that specialize in physical science, but the Sasaki Laboratory is fully equipped with state-of-the-art bio-experiment facilities. It is a very attractive laboratory for those who want to experience at the advanced level and who want to be active in the pharmaceutical field in the future. At present, I am using my experience and knowledge from graduate school to start a venture company with the development of a completely new X-ray cancer diagnostic device and kit. I am grateful that all of the basic ideas of this venture entrepreneurship were thanks to my research life at Sasaki Lab.
